COURSE CONTENT:
1) WALKING ON LEAD All our walks will be carried out outdoors ie local pavements - with the aim of teaching your dog to walk nicely on a loose lead. There are too many trainers who think that teaching a dog to stop pulling when out on walks can be achieved by instructing the owner to walk their dog around an indoor arena in circles with treats stuck in front of their noses. These methods may well work eventually in this artificial environnment but unlikely to work on normal daily walks.
2) RECALL Most owners tend to be okay in getting their dogs back when off lead in quiet areas, but struggle when the environment gets more interesting. ie other dogs, people. We will be looking at getting your dog back irrespective of distractions.
3) RESPONDING WELL TO BASIC COMMANDS, INC STAY EXERCISES Again many owners struggle to get their dog's to respond to basic commands when out on walks or when visitors arrive at their home. We will be looking at getting your dog to respond to you - even when the environment is very doggy excitable!
4) GROOMING AND HANDLING You will be suprised how many owners struggle to groom and handle their dogs without their dog trying to chew the brush, towel, or hands! By the end of the course you will be able to groom and handle your dog under control.
5) CONTROL THROUGH DOORS Some owners have lost a little control of their dogs even before they start their walk. ie their dog has dragged them out of the house and down the drive and the walk has become a trial even before they get to the pavement! We will be looking at leaving your home with your dog under control.
PLUS ANY OTHER TRAINING PROBLEMS YOU MAY HAVE WITH YOUR DOG (JUMPING UP FOR EXAMPLE)
MAXIMUM OF EIGHT DOGS PER CLASS
THE FIRST WEEK OF EACH COURSE IS WITHOUT DOGS. WE WILL TALK ABOUT HAVING THE RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR DOG, HOW DOG'S LEARN, REWARDS AND PRAISE, PLUS MUCH MORE...

BACKGROUND INFORMATION - DOG CLASSES
Social Behaviour Dog Training has been running Dog Training Classes at Sowood Community Centre for the past 16 years. Although other dog training groups have periodically chosen to run classes at the same venue. We are not related to any of these groups.
We were probably one of the first Dog Training Clubs to set up structured, set courses for dogs and their owners. It is nice to see that over the years many other dog training groups have followed suit.
Although the course content is extremely similar to that covered by the Kennel Club's Good Citizen Dog Scheme, which many dog clubs follow, our version was devised a number of years before the Kennel Club's.
SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR PUPPY CLASSES
** WE ARE PROUD TO BE ONE OF THE VERY FEW TRAINING CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY TO RUN CLASSES FOR YOUNG PUPPIES UNDER 16 WEEKS OF AGE **
